A charging station, also called an EV charger or electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), is a piece of equipment that supplies electrical power for charging plug-in electric vehicles (including hybrids, neighborhood electric vehicles, trucks, buses, and others).

 

CCS1 to CCS2 Adapter Description

This CCS Combo 1 to CCS Combo 2 adapter is specifically for American and European markets’ EV Drivers.

When there are CCS Combo 1 (SAE J1772) EV Chargers around them and their EVs are from European Standard (CCS Combo 2, IEC 62196), they need to use CCS Combo 1 to converter to CCS combo 2 to charge their EVs.

So the CCS1 to CCS2 Adapter will help EV drivers to use CCS Combo 1 EV charger to charge the European CCS Combo 2 EVs.

 

What is the difference between CCS1 and CCS2 plug?
Type 1 is common for American vehicles, it's a single-phase plug and can charge at a speed of up to 7.4 kW. Type 2 is standard for European and Asian vehicles from 2018 onwards, it's a triple-phase plug and can charge at a level of up to 43 kW. CCS is a version of type 2 with two additional power contacts.

 

Can I use a CCS charger on a Type 2?
If you have a CCS Combo 2 socket in your car and want to charge at home on AC, you simply plug in your normal Type 2 plug into the upper half.

What is the TYpe2 / IEC62196 standard

IEC 62196 Type 2 connector (commonly referred to as mennekes) is used for charging electric cars within Europe. Electric power is provided as single-phase or three-phase alternating current (AC).

In January 2013, the IEC 62196 Type 2 connector was selected by the European Commission as official charging plug within the European Union. It has since been adopted as the recommended connector in some countries outside of Europe, including New Zealand.

Charging cable safety:
